Cleighton Stevens

With over 20 years of plumbing experience and a lifetime of hands-on know-how, Cleighton brings a wealth of practical, technical, and lived experience to the table. He’s not just a licensed plumber — he’s also been a CFA firefighter, surf lifesaver, and someone who has truly lived off-grid: from remote island shacks and caravans without power or water, to building a fully self-sufficient off-road teardrop camper powered by 12V solar with its own water storage.

He’s worked on mobile coffee vans, tiny homes, caravans, and built an off-grid gooseneck horse trailer turned tiny home on wheels. When Cleighton and Yvonne had to move fast to avoid homelessness, he set up a functional off-grid home — including power, water, solar, fencing and driveways — in just six weeks. His experience with setting up infrastructure, water systems, and powering off-grid living makes him a rock-solid guide for anyone starting out.

Yvonne Stevens

Raised in a small country town in Austria, Yvonne’s love for seasonal living, good food, and growing her own produce started young. From preserving meat at home to growing vegetables and collecting eggs from her Nana’s chickens, her early years were steeped in sustainable living. After moving to Australia, she fulfilled her dream of owning a permaculture farm — building it from scratch, setting up gardens, earthworks, water systems, fencing, and raising livestock.

Her background spans hospitality, landscaping, permaculture, business ownership, house renovations, and running a successful gardening business in Darwin. She’s worked excavators and bobcats, built driveways, and designed functional, low-maintenance landscapes. She has also set up homes on rented land, shared properties, and her own blocks — often with limited resources, proving that you don’t need a big budget to build a beautiful, functional life.

Together, Cleighton and Yvonne represent both ends of the spectrum: precision trade-based systems, and creative, resourceful solutions for real-life budgets. Their combined skills offer a grounded, practical, and inspiring guide to help you plan and live your off-grid dream — with fewer mistakes and more confidence.
